Clean Eats Guide Image
At Petoody, we believe choosing pet food should feel simple, honest and clear.

With so many products on the shelf, it can be hard to know what is actually inside — or whether it suits your pet’s needs. Some products are beautifully simple, made with one or two recognisable ingredients. Others include added fillers, sweeteners, colours, flavours or processing aids that may not be necessary for every pet.

So we’ve created the Petoody Clean Eats Guide to help you shop with more confidence.

What does “clean” mean at Petoody?

For us, a clean food product is one that is easy to understand, thoughtfully made and suited to the animal it is intended for.

That usually means:

  • recognisable ingredients
  • minimal unnecessary fillers
  • no artificial colours or flavours where possible
  • simple recipes for sensitive pets
  • species-appropriate ingredients
  • clear labelling
  • products chosen with care, not just because they are popular

Clean does not always mean “single ingredient” or “perfect”. Some products need functional ingredients to help with texture, shelf life, digestion or nutritional balance. Our goal is to take the stress out of shopping. It is to make the ingredient list easier to understand.

The Petoody Clean Ratings

To make shopping easier, Petoody uses three simple clean product ratings:

Pure

Our cleanest rating. These products are usually single-ingredient or very minimal, with little to no unnecessary extras. Think simple meat, fish, organs, hay-based products or naturally dried ingredients.

Simple

These products still have a clean and recognisable ingredient profile, but may include a small number of functional additions. These could support texture, nutrition, fibre, freshness or palatability.

Curated

These products may include more added ingredients or more processing-support ingredients, but they have still been reviewed and selected by Petoody. Curated does not mean “bad” — it simply means the product has a more complex ingredient list, and we want customers to know that before buying.

Why ingredients matter

Just like people, pets can have different needs. Some dogs may be sensitive to certain proteins. Some cats do best with meat-focused products. Rabbits and guinea pigs need products that support their natural grazing diet, with hay, grasses and fibre being especially important.

The right food depends on the pet.

That is why Petoody looks beyond pretty packaging and focuses on what is actually inside the product.
